The start of...something.In between to working on some for-pay writing projects and wrapping up Meddling Heroes, I downloaded an app for my phone that serves as a word processor, allowing me to write on the go. The early result is this fragment of…something. It seems like a good story start, but I’m not sure where it will go. So naturally, I tossed it online here to see what other people have to say about it.

The story fragment is below. By the way, did you know I’ve been reading Terry Pratchett novels lately?

Random Blogness: An Award-Winning Short Story

Posted in Fiction, Random Blogness, Short Stories with tags , on March 9, 2012 by Charlie Brooks

New Millennium Writings 2012If you head on over to New Millennium Writings, you can order their 2012 issue. In that 2012 issue, you can find my award-winning short story “Eight-Bit Heaven,” which tied for first place in last year’s fiction contest and receives hard-copy publication here.

“Eight-Bit Heaven” is the story of an angel who can’t keep his eras straight, his obsession with one recovering alcoholic, and the time they waste together playing Super Mario Bros. while he plots to destroy the world. It’s one of the best stories I’ve ever written, so check it out!

Posthumous

Art by Kristin Marie Enns-KavanaghI find myself trapped in a Looney Tunes cartoon. Try to get away from the wascally wabbit and he always pops up right behind you.

Publications-wise, it’s been a good year for me. That good year continues this month with my short story “Posthumous,” which has been included in this month’s Toasted Cheese, an online literary journal. Head on over and check it out!

“Posthumous” is loosely linked with a novel that I’m working on called 21 Faces, which has received some of the best reviews I’ve ever gotten despite not being finished yet. While I’m polishing that off, I also just signed off on yet another short story that will be published next year in Aoife’s Kiss. Stay tuned.

That's FROM the Devil, not FOR the Devil.Awesome Adventures! Comics has its newest Fiction Feature, “Sympathy from the Devil.” It’s a tale of cinema, Satan, and sorrow.

You might notice that the previous Fiction Feature, “Eight-Bit Heaven,” has gone missing. Where might it have disappeared to? I’ll announce that soon.
