Hans GruberI love the Internet like a sibling – a sibling with very little social grace or common sense who is constantly embarrassing me at parties. I love the fact that it provides me with an outlet to gab on endlessly about things I like and vent about things I dislike. But with that territory comes a degree of frustration. In some cases, this is just minor irritation. In others, usually a result of a poorly-worded image search, it results in screaming horror that makes me want to stick my thumbs into my eyes. I’m going to focus on the former right now and save the eye-gouging for later.

Movies are one of those areas that I tend to read up about a lot and one of those areas where people tend to get me grinding my teeth. Almost all movies tend to have plot holes, but there are certain holes that people just won’t let go. They reach a viral level and become repeated by everybody who wants to take a shot at popular cinema. The most popular of these tend to irritate the Hell out of me because they aren’t actually plot holes. Continue reading

The Animated Superhero

Justice League: New Frontier...great comic, good movie.Superhero movies are the big thing right now in Hollywood. Since X-Men came out in 2000 and made a boatload of cash, studios have been buying up comic books right and left. Some of these, such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the revamped Batman franchise, have been great. Many of them, such as Daredevil, Punisher: War Zone, and the third installments of both the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, have been creative wastelands. No matter what, though, the films keep making money, so the trend marches on. Continue reading

Norman Osborn versus Lex Luthor

Posted in In This Corner with tags , , , on December 31, 2010 by Charlie Brooks

Marvel's Lex Luthor wannabe tries to take down the real thing.Norman Osborn (aka the Green Goblin, aka the Iron Patriot) is a billionaire industrialist who was once considered criminally insane and then gained control of the United States government in the Marvel Universe…because that’s how Marvel rolls, apparently. In current continuity, he’s in jail, but we’ll rewind a few months to when he was still in power for the purpose of this fight. Lex Luthor has been there and done all that in the DC Universe, but he did it about ten years earlier and to much better effect. Now Luthor is going for some street justice to pay Osborn back for stealing his idea. Continue reading
