Pathfinder Treasure Trove: Mattress of Significant Comfort
Mattress of Significant Comfort
Aura moderate enchantment and necromancy; CL 7th
Slot none; Price 50,000 gp; Weight 100 lbs.
This comfortable-looking mattress can fit two Medium-sized creatures or four Small-sized creatures. Anybody who lies down on the mattress becomes instantly relaxed unless they are normally immune to sleep. A person who goes to sleep on the mattress sleeps peacefully and cannot be awakened by normal noise or anything that would not normally overcome the effects of a deep slumber spell.
The mattress has a sinister purpose to it, draining the life force of anybody who sleeps in it. Any creature who sleeps on the mattress for a period of eight hours gains a negative level (no save). To wake up on his own, the sleeper must succeed at a DC 14 Will save after eight hours have passed. If that save fails, the sleeper continues to rest peacefully for another eight hours, continuing to take negative levels until he has either succeeded at a saving throw, died from the level drain, or otherwise expired due to another hazard such as starvation. Creatures who awaken on the mattress don’t necessarily know that the mattress is the source of the energy drain.
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, deep slumber, enervation; Cost 25,000 gp
